EXPERIENCE
Deon joined Mercer in June 2015 where he has been accountable for Business Development, Partnerships and Marketing, as well as the Employee Engagement solution. Prior to joining Mercer, Deon spent 21 years working in the financial services industry. Most recently, he was the HR Head for HR delivery for a large insurance company in Johannesburg. In this role all HR delivery functions (HR Management, Operations and Learning) reported into him. He was also accountable for the integration of various HR functions at the time. Earlier, he spent five years as the HR Executive in Africa for a leading financial services organisation in Cape Town. In this role he was accountable for the full HR function across seven African markets. His accountability entailed setting up the three-year HR strategy and then driving tactical and operational execution of the strategy. His insight into the African market developed during this period of time. He has travelled to various African markers on a regular basis and has spent significant time on the ground learning more about the opportunities and challenges.

He started his working career as a Financial Accountant and has global Human Capital experience, so brings a valuable mix of business and HC skills and expertise. Julian has
extensive experience in financial services having worked for the likes of Standard Bank Group, Nedbank and The Family Office in the Middle East. He is currently Human Capital Executive for Old Mutual Limited focusing on the Technology, Digital and data and Customer Experience businesses.

Karina Reid: Executive Coach, BRG Group

Karina has 25 years’ experience in the fields of organisational psychology, cultural transformation/change management (with specific reference to behavioural change), HR related projects, coaching, corporate wellness, leadership development and training and development (including content development). She is currently completing a PhD study in Consulting Psychology and her thesis covers the field of Behavioural Change.  

Karina has been a guest lecturer at the University of Pretoria (Departments of Engineering and Dieticians). She has been an invited speaker at several conferences/seminars including HR conferences, Discovery Vitality – Behavioural Change conference, Knowledge Resources Wellness and SIOPSA (SIOPSA is the professional body for Industrial Psychologists in South Africa) JHB Branch in 2014. She also presented her PhD study in an academic feedback paper at the Industrial Psychology Conference (SIOPSA) in 2011. She has been a speaker at several Women's Day events.  Karina has been a speaker at international conferences including Mauritius and the University of St Paul, Minneapolis, USA. She has also been on several radio interviews (e.g. KayaFM, Digital Edge, ChaiFM) and NBC Africa TV as a health coach.   Karina was an expert on the Longevity Magazine’s wellness panel. A yearly weight-loss challenge is featured in the magazine and Karina’s role is as Health Coach for the group of participants. She has been a guest speaker at Longevity Magazine events, Woman’s Day and on radio and TV on behalf of Longevity Magazine. Karina’s engaging and challenging Keynote address covers her topic – Your Lifestyle MBA (Mind, Body and Attitude) which covers the field of Personal Health, Wellness and Wellbeing from a behavioural change point of view. Karina also presents workshops and talks on Emotional Intelligence in corporate environments.

The Lifestyle MBA (Mind, Body and Attitude) programme has been rolled out in many companies including Momentum, Vodacom, Avovision, SAAB and University of Johannesburg to name a few. More than 1 000 people have used the MyHealth-Code online behavioural change tool and support system.  Karina also presents an Emotional Intelligence workshop – using psychometric tests (EQ-I and MBTI). She has also developed a Diversity Management programme based on psychological principles and group dynamics. This programme has been rolled out at Auto and General (Telesure), SAB, RMB, Alexander Forbes and others.

Kathy has over 15 years’ experience in Human Capital and across integrated talent management designing and implementing business and people strategies, frameworks, processes, systems and tools across SA and Africa, with HR and business leadership teams and executive committees. Kathy has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (HR and Strategy) Certified Change Management Practitioner Project Management. Kathy is currently Deputy Managing Director and a Principle Consultant working across strategic human capital, talent management, leadership and learning and change management.

Kathy has significant consulting, facilitation and engagement experience with diverse stakeholders with deep skills in Talent Management, Leadership and Talent Development, Project and Change Management and People Strategy Development. Kathy worked for Standard Bank as a Talent Lead across the global business (Business, Function and Geography).
